International Women's Day
March 8, 2017
March 8th marks International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of women around the world. Originally celebrated in 1908, this 109 year old tradition has typically received more attention abroad than in the United States. But this year is different for American women. 2016 ended with a the election of a man who openly bragged about assaulting women and dismissed it as ‘locker room talk’. 2017 began with a massive protest that took place on all seven continents. The March on Washington alone had an estimated 400,000 attendees. Significantly more than Donald Trump’s Inauguration, to his misery.
Since then, thousands of women have signed up to run for office. They are standing up and declaring their ambition to be a voice in their community. From city council to state capitals to Congress, American women are challenging the status quo. Today, only 25% of elected seats are held by women throughout all levels of government. As a DNC certified, woman-owned agency, Control Point Group is proud to work with incredible candidates across the country fighting to change that.
